More Lingo:

A water alarm is a handy device that you might put in your water heater drain pan, or on the ground beside the tank. If it senses moisture, it starts shrieking. Seeing as how most people ignore their water heaters, this can save you from a castastrophic water heater failure. It's not uncommon for a failing tank to start leaking modestly and continue until the thing bursts. Along the Gulf Coast, it's common to find water heaters in attics, and that is even more dire because a bursting water heater there can drench everything below, with huge costs in ruined sheetrock and carpet, as well as mold issues.
