This morning we came out to the garage and the heater was spraying water from the top? NOt from any of the connections nor the relief valve- but there is a small hole – like a predrilled hole. The guide to the unit does not address this hole.

Do we need to replace this unit? It is only a year old and was replaced under warranty last year. I’m beginning to think AO Smith make a bad product. @ heaters in 6 years?

    Thanks

Sounds like replacement time to me. If it’s not coming from a fitting or T&P, that leaves an anode port, if there is one, or the tank. Even the anode port would be bad because that shouldn’t be happening.

As to Smith making a bad product, all the manufacturers make a certain number of tanks that fail, due to limitations in the process of making them. It’s a drag, though, to get two in a row.
