The Tank › water heater smells like it is burning

We had our outside faucet back up and blow a hole in the wall where our hot water heater is located. There was about 1 inch of water on the ground, but our hot water heater is on a taller concrete base. It started smelling like it was burning and we shut the fuses off to it. It still smells a little even without power to it. What could be wrong?July 3, 2011 at 10:43 am #16273undee70ssParticipant
Did any water get sprayed on the heater? The electrical connections on the heater may have gotten wet, causing a short.July 3, 2011 at 11:20 am #16274
No water got sprayed on it as far as we can tell. It is about 5 feet away from where the leak was spraying onto the back of our dryer and then up in the air to the shelf over the dryer.July 3, 2011 at 11:20 am #16275

Hello: You need to get somebody with a meter over to look at both the water heater and dryer for shorts and leaks to ground. Every wire junction needs to be looked at to find what was burning. Both appliances really should remain off until this is done or there is some pretty serious risk 😯
ps. Of course, it’s a holiday weekend!
