Hi, I rent a condo and just moved here. So far I know none of my neighbors have this problem. Water is naturally soft here but I do not have a water softener. So far they have removed sediment from the hot water heater. I am not here but once a month. Yesterday morning, I turned all my hot water faucets on and ran all the water out of the hot water tank until no more hot water And yes, all locations were stinky. By late last evening, I had stinky hot water again coming out of the faucet.
What should I suggest next to the landlord to do. He seems to have his own plumber. Also, when do you know it is just time to replace the water heater.
    Thanks for your input!!

You have stagnation odor. Go here, and think about implementing the Peroxide Fix: http://www.waterheaterrescue.com/Troubleshooting/peroxide-fix.html .
