Can a water heater be transported from the store to your home by laying it on its side, assuming you are careful about it?

I leave them in their original packing and transport them this way always. Just be careful when tilting it up. I place the end or the top of the heater down first where there is support then pick up the bottom and slide.

Hello: Full agreement with Ej. I have seen that some heaters have aluminum anodes that are bent far out of line, curving off to one side. With these you can tell the heater went over rough roads to get to its new home. Rough handling, and forklifts don’t help heaters either. Make sure the box the heater comes in is not crushed anywhere. Don’t accept one that is.

    Yours, Larry
