I have had two hot water leaks in the past month. We fixed one under the sink, and then the out put line from the water heater blew and we fixed that. THEN the t & P line began poring out water.

This gas heater is only six years old, but has had no maintenance, It began making noises during the first leak – before we located that, we drained the tank for the first time. During all the repairs, my sons may have inadvertantly left the heat on while cutting the water off, but….should I replace the T &P first, or replace the whole heater? I am getting pretty tired of $1,000 utility bills and cold showers.

Like as not, you just need a new T&P, but just to be thorough, go to Tanklets and read up on T&Ps and thermal expansion. It won’t cost you much to replace the T&P.
