We replaced the bottom element of our hot water heater after talking to a friend of our who does plumbing work. It heats fine for a few hours and sometimes the water will stay hot for a day or more. After that the reset button will cut off. Do you have any suggestions on this? I read a previous problem just like this on your site and the advice was given to check out the topic “water heater stopped working”. This topic didn’t solve my problem.Any more suggestions?

Hello: It’s certain that one of the thermostats is not working. If you have a meter and can check that power is switched to the lower element after the upper part of the tank is hot, than the lower thermostat is the problem.

The lower one is most likely to fail as it is most likely to get wet. 😉

    Yours, Larry
