I’m trying to restart my 2yr old GE water heater. With all the lights out, sitting in the dark, I am pushing the piezo igniter but do not see any sparks in the window. If I disconnect the wire and hold it against the metal tank, I get a spark. I cleaned the connection and re-attached it . . . still now internal spark. Any ideas?

Hello: For some reason, the electrode isn’t grounded. The two approaches that come to mind are to trace down the fault with an ohm meter or to add a ground wire from the burner assembly or any metal that is in good contact with it, and then running that ground wire to the tank. That make any sense? 😕
