water heat was good before bed, woke up to no hot water for shower. Let water run for about 10 min and still no hot water. Drained tank down with water shut off to house, opened relief valve, draining water from tank was very hot. filled tank back up with fresh water, burner turned on heated water in tank again and still water running cold from faucet. Things that come to mind: Is this a problem at all faucets or just the one in the shower? If the former, read the Tanklet on backflushing; you could have some sort of blockage in the hot-water line.
If the latter, it could still be that or a problem with your shower control. What kind do you have?

Thanks for the help. But every faucet in the house had no hot water. I called someone and they suggested it may be the dip tube. ?March 7, 2006 at 9:41 pm #4719Randy SchuylerKeymaster
If it were the dip tube, you would still get a little bit of hot water before it turned tepid or cold. You’d also likely be getting bits of plastic gunk in your aerators. Still, that’s a fairly easy thing to check. You can find out how under Know-how. Another is a cross-connecton, where cold water is getting into the hot line or vice-versa. You can search on that and the first post tells how to test for it.
