I have to replace my drain valve, therefore I must drain my water heater. I’ve been draining it for a while now and it’s still going strong.

I believe that I shut off the cold water supply. Is there any way to verify that I’ve done that?

    Thanks

Hello: If air can get in, so water can get out it should take very roughly ten minutes to empty a forty gallon heater. If the cold line feels cold than cold water is flowing through it. Sounds like you might need a new shut off on the heater. Turn off water to the house and open an outside bibb to bleed off pressure ;).

    Yours, Larry
