My 5 year old Bradford While water heater will not stay lit. The Blower is working and I am getting good pressure. The pilot lights, followed by the main burner with nice blue flame. After about 90 seconds, it shuts off. If I unplug it, the same thing will happen, but this time the main burner will shut off in about 20 seconds.

I removed the pilot ignition and sensor (honeywell Q3400A1008) because I thought perhaps the sensor is not working. (I don’t have a volt meter). It looks clean. Should I buy a new pilot ignition and sensor or is it something else?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Mike

If the sensor is a flame rod type you can try to lightly clean with some fine sandpaper. The metal should be shiny and not dull in color. It will be hard to verify your problem is either the sensor or the controller.
