I read Larry’s presentation, “Improving the Efficiency of Hot Water Distribution Systems”, which mentions the superior ACT heat trap. Where can they be purchased – I can’t find them?

Hello: Sadly as far as I know, they stayed in prototype and are not commercialized. There is a lot if resistance to change… The next best is simply long flex connectors bent into traps with good insulation secured all around on both hot and cold sides.

Do the loops stop thermal siphoning as well as or better than the flapper or ball type?

Hello: Ive seen thermal imaging of the loops made from copper and they clearly worked well. The usual heat traps are meant to leak water through a little and also are short, so would do less to reduce heat loss from conductivity. Hope that helps!
