Woke up to having cold water and after investigating I determined that I had a bad thermocouple. I have a ~5 year old A O SMITH Promax 50 gallon natural gas water heater…

The original thermocouple had an integrated 190 degree TCO…

I stopped by Home Depot and purchased a universal Honeywell Themocouple that didn’t have the TCO….

Is this fine for a replacement?

    Thanks.

Nope! By replacing a part with an incorrect part your warranty is now voided. The TCO is there for your protection. Since you have a minimum of six years warranty on parts why not call A. O. Smith and have them send you the correct part out? Makes sense.
