You can use an impact wrench to break loose an anode rod. But if you don’t stop there, the anode will fly around the inside of the tank from the centrifugal force and might damage something or wrap around something. I have a very ugly picture where somebody did this. Only break it loose; then take it out the rest of the way by hand.
