My original post stated that the pilot went out but I was able to solve the problem. As I was disconnecting the burner assembly, I found that the thermocouple, where it was connected to the gas valve, was very loose. I then vacuumed the vent and cleaned the thermocouple tip, (even though it wasn’t very dirty). Problem solved. My question concerned possible future problems. I just don’t get the reasoning that would make a cheap, minor repair into an expensive one. Aren’t there other safety devices that would shut it down on over temp.
