Hello: I’d be wary of modifying the heater unless you can get the manufacturer to suggest how they would like it done. Also consider putting the heater in a room that can be sealed off from the house (and supplied with combustion air) or move it outside of the house shell, so the problem goes away.

Power venting in a tight house will only cause unwanted leakage elsewhere and still has the problem of leaving a combustion appliance inside, which is something builders of tight homes avoid. 😉
