Hello: If the built in insulation on the tank is already good, (two inches or more of foam and the tank lives in conditioned space) then there is little need for a wrap. Heat traps and well insulated pipe can save as much as a tank wrap 😉
If you do add a wrap, just make sure it cannot slide down and block the air inlet. I like to use plumber’s tape and sheet metal screws up at the top edge of the tank to firmly hold the tank wrap in place. Tape fails. Some heaters have inlets on the side and cannot accept a wrap.
