We just don’t know. But most plumbers are perfectly capable of doing the work. The hitch may be in getting one to do it. They’re in business and are looking for maximum-paying jobs, not minimum-paying. Someone recently tried to find a plumber to just change an anode. One plumber told him to wait until the tank broke and replace it, while the other tried to charge as much as a new heater would cost. We’ve changed anodes in 20 minutes with the right tools. But if one were changing the anode and replacing the dip tube and drain valve, that might be enough to satisfy them.
Tell us more about your current heater. I refrained from commenting on your other post because venting issues are not among my strengths. My friend Larry Weingarten may have something to say.
How old is your heater? Is it a power-vent now? If in doubt about age, upload a picture of the label.
