Hello: “Valve that mixes hot and cold water” raises a red flag for me. Why do you need a mixing valve on a single heater? Next time the water runs cold, quickly go and feel the cold pipe leading the the mixing valve. Is it cold? If it’s colder than room temperature, it’s mixing in cold water. Sounds like an intermittent failure, which is the difficult type to deal with 😛
