I assumed they would just send this:

but one manufactured for/by Rheem. I didnt expect them to send the entire set. Even the reps I spoke with on the phone kept insisting it was just the thermocouple. In any case it is currently working and I can see the orange fire inside the water heater.

The question is now, will it relight later when it needs to heat up more water. I’ll keep this thread updated.

Thanks for all the info here. I learned more about water heaters in the past few days than I would have ever expected. It really was like you said, something you forget about once it is installed…until you shower for 2 days with icy water.
