thanks for the reply it is a reliance self-cleaning gas 808 8 30 NKRI961 C

i have restored old cars so have a lot of experience with seized nipples etc. so with ideas from tank forum here i’m sure i can replace anode with 3 piece magnesium anode but curved combo dip tube and anode – is it flexible ?

i only have 17 inch clearance to ceiling

i’m sure the plastic drain valve will break off when i try to remove it. i did not replace it when i installed tank because i thought metal would leak more heat out. wished that i had originally replaced it with metal.

i saw a good diagram here that showed cutting plastic liner of nipple in three places to remove.

i plan to make home made 3/4 th inch thread chaser pipe plug and cutting 4 slots through the threads and working the plug slowly back and forth with wd40 to clean up the threads.
but if that all doesn’t go well i will need to replace the water heater that same day because need hot water.

best regards alan
