Hello: I must say, “it depends”. 😎 Two benefits of tankless, are that there is not much stored water, so there is little standby loss and there is no risk of odor. The biggest con is that you may need to upgrade the electrical service to your home as they can draw a LOT of power. Imagine an apartment building where each unit has it’s own tankless electric heater and everybody showers and then goes to work around the same time. 😯 For this sort of reason, utilities have concerns.
Have you considered a heat pump water heater? That may be another way to go without scaring the power company and saving roughly half the cost of heating water. Of course, heater choice will depend on your situation. 😉
