So how was it capped? With what? Also, do you have a water softener? I’m just trying to figure out why someone would have done such a thing. I’d also like the serial number. If it’s really survived ten-plus years without an anode, then I’d say you’re lucky. I do hear of such things, especially from softener techs who commonly advise people to remove anodes to solve the odor problems their softeners have created, and some of the stories may be true. But I also hear from people who go through a water heater every two years in softened water.
