Energy Factor, or EF is one of the things people shopping for water heaters go by. Unfortunately, it is a very flawed metric. Four people opened the plenary session of the ACEEE Hot Water Forum in Berkely, CA in May 2011. It fell to Harvey Sachs to kick off one of the most talked-about subjects: what should replace EF, which everybody in the industry understands does a poor job of comparing different technologies, or even of giving the unsuspecting buyer any useful information on which to base a purchase.
